4 STEPS TO TAKING CARE OF YOUR DENTURES

Caring for a partial or full denture set can be overwhelming if you’re new to owning this type of dental hardware. It’s not difficult though and, with the help of Dobson Ranch Dental Care, you’ll have the guidance and expertise to help you transition into your new dental care routine.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR DENTURES

RINSE AFTER EATING

After eating, rinse out your dentures if possible. This is to prevent food and other loose particles from getting stuck between your dentures and your gums, which can cause irritation and inflammation. This is also a great way to prevent bad breath after a meal. To ensure that your dentures don’t break if you drop them, place a towel on the counter or in the sink itself. Always make sure to handle your dentures with care so you don’t cause any damage to them.

CLEAN YOUR MOUTH AFTER REMOVAL

Once you’ve removed your dentures from your mouth, rinse your mouth, flushing out any remaining particles or loose bits of food that are remaining. You can complete this by using a soft bristle brush to softly scrub your gums and other natural teeth, as well as to clean your tongue. This is also the best time to remove any remaining denture adhesive so you can reapply to a clean surface.

BRUSH DAILY

Just like your natural teeth, your dentures require daily brushing to keep them free from plaque, food, and other deposits. You’ll want to brush them with a soft brush and a nonabrasive denture cleanser. Brush the teeth and, if you use an adhesive, also brush the adhesive grooves to remove any remaining glue. Just make sure that you don’t use the cleanser directly in your mouth.

SOAK OVERNIGHT

When you’re ready to remove your dentures and settle in for the night, make sure you brush them and then soak them. Dentures need to stay moist to keep their shape. Leaving them out in the air for a long period of time will dry them out and cause them to crack and break. If you have any questions about proper storage, always ask your dentist.
