What are Dental Crowns made of?
Dental crowns are crafted from ceramic material known for its durability, attractive appearance, and longevity. While they appear solid externally, crowns are hollow inside, allowing them to be precisely shaped for a custom fit over the tooth.

When do you need Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are used to restore teeth that have:● Large cracks that cannot be repaired with fillings.● Severe damage from trauma or infection.● Extensive wear that fillings cannot fix.● Missing or extracted teeth that require prosthetic replacement.Additionally, crowns serve cosmetic purposes by reshaping misshapen teeth, closing gaps, and enhancing overall appearance.

What is the procedure for placing Dental Crowns?

The crown placement procedure is simple and generally painless. First, the dentist examines the tooth and assesses if a crown is suitable. X-rays and scans are taken to get a detailed view of the tooth and surrounding area. This data is used to create a CAD/CAM model for designing the crown. Meanwhile, a temporary crown is placed. At the next visit, the temporary crown is removed, and a thin layer of enamel is shaved off the tooth to ensure a proper fit for the crown. The tooth shape is digitally scanned and sent to a lab for crown fabrication, which takes a few days. Once ready, the crown is cleaned, adjusted if needed, and bonded to the tooth with dental adhesive and curing light. Finally, the crown is checked for fit and polished to blend seamlessly with natural teeth.
